Some would say that it is an evil idea, while others would call it a necessary move in order to protect our young people from getting involved with drugs. Others would call it a slippery slope that leads us down the path of unlimited criminalization and suppression of personal freedoms. Yet others would have you believe that once cannabis is legalized people will suddenly be happy go lucky once again, forgetting that we are already hard at work creating more drug addicts, criminals, and other assorted problems in our society. Here's why I think it makes sense to legalize pot.

People have always made mistakes when it comes to legislating, and it's no different with legalization. One mistake we've made in the past was passing laws against things that aren't legal right now, also go here. If we legalize something which isn't currently legal, we run the risk of individuals using that law to circumvent the law and get a criminal record for something they may not have done yet. For example, if there are no laws against possessing marijuana, an individual might decide to buy some and go on a crime spree, which would violate the law.

So, does legalization of cannabis make sense at this time? Well, I think it probably makes sense at this time because it's something that many citizens want to do and are working hard at the local, state, and federal level to make it happen. Just consider how many people were arrested for marijuana-related crimes. Also consider the amount of money that can be generated through taxes, which are currently owed to the government and never paid. The money generated from sales of taxed cannabis would surely pay for those losses and make up for any revenue shortfalls.

It seems like many want to fully legalize adult-use recreational marijuana. However, it looks like their efforts are simply being blocked by the administration and the Department of Justice.

Marijuana advocates throughout are also gearing up for upcoming elections. If voters in several states decide to legalize low-THC products medically legal, this could possibly open up a huge new market for licensed growers and manufacturers of herbal medicine, try this now. Currently, marijuana use is not recommended and is considered a gateway drug. That means that there is a real danger of young people using it as a way to become addicted to harder drugs.
